Forensics science has captured our imagination for a long time. But what is forensics?
Definition: Forensics is the application of the scientific method and techniques to establish factual answers to legal problems.
Estabilish, the who, what, when, where, how, and why of a situation so that the process of law can “take it from there”.
Forensics “of / before the forum” science is the use of scientific methods to investigate crimes, especially relating to evidence that are maybe related to crimes.
Forensis — presented before the forum in Roman times. The accuser and the accused met before the forum, and the forum decided on guilt based on who presented the best arguments in the most compelling way.
Digital forensics is the same thing when digital data, devices, transmissions, … are involved.

We’ve done it for a long time — “it looks like someone broke down that door”, or “looks like he died from a stab wound, not a heart attack”.
